Privacy Policy

UmmahVeu (“the app”) is made by VEU, an independent software publisher registered in Ontario, Canada. This policy explains, in plain terms, what the app does and doesn’t do with your information. It covers the iPhone app, the Android app, and this website.

The short version

• There is no account and no sign-in. The app works anonymously.
• There are no ads, no ad networks, no behavioural analytics and no cross-app tracking.
• VEU does not sell or rent personal information.
• Some information does leave your device — but only what a feature you asked for needs, and only to the service that provides it: prayer-time calculation, weather, the Qur’an text and recitations, the daily hadith, mosque timetables, a message you send us, and optional diagnostics. Every one of them is named below.
• Optional technical diagnostics are off by default, and stay off until you switch them on.

What we collect

Location. With your permission, the app uses your location for prayer times, Qiblah direction and local weather. The Qiblah is calculated entirely on your device and sends nothing. Prayer times and weather are calculated by the services named below, so your coordinates are sent to them — there is no way to compute times for a place without knowing the place. Before they leave your device they are rounded to two decimal places, roughly a kilometre, so your exact GPS position is never transmitted. The full precision stays on your phone for the on-device cache. We run no servers that receive it, it is never stored by us, and there is no account for it to be linked to.

Contact form. If you choose to message us — in the app or on the support page — we receive the name, email address and message you enter. The in-app form also includes the app version, build number and platform. We use this information only to read and reply to you. If you’d rather not share them, simply don’t use the form.

Technical diagnostics — off unless you turn it on. Settings has a switch called Share Technical Diagnostics. It is off by default. Leave it off and no diagnostic data is sent, and the diagnostics service is never contacted. This switch governs diagnostics only: with it off, the app still contacts the prayer-time, weather, Qur’an, hadith and mosque-timetable services when you use those features, and still delivers a message if you send one.

If you switch it on, the app may send a crash report or a technical failure report to Sentry, a third-party crash-reporting service, to help us fix bugs. Those reports can contain only: the app version and build, your operating-system version, a generic device model (for example “iPhone” or an Android model name), a fixed code naming which feature failed, and the technical stack trace of a crash. Nothing else is attached.

They never contain your prayer history, prayer times, notes, journal entries, mosque choices, Qur’an reading or listening activity, thikr activity, location, name, email address, purchase details, or any account, device or advertising identifier. Ordinary situations are not reported at all — being offline, declining a permission, or cancelling a purchase are expected outcomes, not failures. You can switch diagnostics back off at any time, which also deletes the app’s local diagnostics cache.

That’s all we collect. We do not collect analytics, usage tracking, advertising identifiers, your contacts, photos, or any other personal data.

What stays on your device

Your prayer log, streaks and notes, your Qur’an bookmarks and reading position, downloaded recitations, your thikr activity, your chosen mosque, your settings and your premium unlock all live on your phone. There is no VEU account, no server-side profile and no sync between devices, so none of it is uploaded anywhere. On Android the app also excludes this data from cloud backup and device transfer.

What we don’t do

• No account and no sign-in. The app works anonymously.
• No ads and no ad networks.
• No third-party analytics or tracking, on or off the app.
• No crash or diagnostic reporting unless you switch it on yourself. It is off by default.
• We never sell or rent personal information. We disclose only the limited information a service provider needs to deliver a feature you asked for, as described below.

Service providers

These are every outside service the app or this website contacts, what each one is for, and exactly what reaches it. Nothing else is contacted.

VEU stores none of the responses from these services anywhere but your device. The two exceptions are the two you initiate: a message you send sits with Formspree and in our email until the conversation is finished, and a diagnostic report you opted into sits with Sentry. Both are covered under Retention below.

A note on what we can and cannot promise: these services process only what is needed to answer each request, and the app sends them nothing that identifies you. What each provider then does with that request is governed by their own policy, linked above — not by ours. We do not have a contract with any of them that lets us make promises on their behalf, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Retention and deletion

On your device. Everything listed under “What stays on your device” remains until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes it. We cannot delete it for you, because we never had it.

Messages you send us. Kept only while they are useful for the conversation. Our rule is to delete a message from the form service, and the email thread, once the exchange is closed and any resulting fix has shipped, and to clear anything left over on 1 January and 1 July each year. If you want your message deleted sooner, email yazan@ummahveu.com and we will delete it and confirm.

Optional diagnostic reports. Only exist if you turned diagnostics on. They contain no personal information — no name, email, location or identifier — so there is nothing in them to trace back to you, and deleting a specific person’s reports is not something we are able to do. Switching the setting off stops any further reports and deletes the app’s local diagnostics cache immediately.

What we could not verify. Neither our form provider nor our diagnostics provider publishes a specific retention period we could confirm at the time of writing, so this policy does not state one. We would rather leave a gap here than print a number we cannot stand behind. Their own policies are linked in the table above.

This website. We keep no logs of our own. Hosting logs are held by Cloudflare under their policy.

Accountability

Yazan Ali, proprietor of VEU, is the person responsible for privacy at VEU and is the contact for any privacy question, access request or complaint. There is no privacy team; it is the same person who writes the app.

Write to yazan@ummahveu.com. Messages go to a person, not a queue, so a reply may take a day or two.

This website

ummahveu.com sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and includes no third-party trackers. If you send a message through the contact form on our support page, it reaches us the same way the in-app form does, and is used only to reply to you.

Your colour palette and light or dark appearance are saved in this browser so they stay consistent across pages and return visits. These preferences are not sent to us. Clearing this site’s browser data removes them.

Children

The app is suitable for a general audience, requires no account, and does not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what’s described above.

Your choices

• You can allow or deny location access anytime in your device settings. If denied, prayer times and Qiblah rely on a location you set manually.
• The contact form is entirely optional.
• Technical diagnostics are off by default. You can turn them on or off at any time in Settings under Share Technical Diagnostics. Turning them off also deletes the app’s local diagnostics cache.
• You can ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to delete it, by emailing yazan@ummahveu.com. In practice the answer is usually “nothing but the message you sent us”.

Where the app’s data actually comes from

If you want to know which calculation method produces your prayer times, where the Qur’an text and mushaf come from, or which mosque timetables the app reads, that is documented in full on the sources and methodology page.

Changes

If we update this policy, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above.
